Louisiana House Bill 8, introduced by Rep. Juan LaFonta (D), would require anyone selling rifle or handgun ammunition to physically verify that the serial number of the gun for which the ammunition is intended to be used has not been altered or destroyed. This means firearms owners would have to transport their firearms to the gun shop if they want to purchase ammunition. Residents would be required do this every time they wish to make an ammunition purchase. Also, this would effectively remove the option for Louisiana residents to purchase ammunition via the internet.

Antique and war relic firearms would be exempt from this new requirement if they are rendered inoperable or if ammunition for these firearms is not available in the U.S. and not otherwise readily available through other means.

Louisiana gun owners are encouraged to contact their state representatives and ask him or her to oppose Louisiana House Bill 8 .

Any US citizen interested in finding his or her state representative’s contact information can visit the US Sportsmen’s Alliance Legislative Action Center.
