Multiple global news sources are reporting that a man was detained shortly after 9 a.m. Central Time today after trying to pass through a TSA security checkpoint at Midland International Airport in Texas with explosives in military-grade wrapping. According to spokespersons from the two agencies, he was taken into custody by the FBI at an airport security checkpoint.
Officials declined to say whether the man was in military uniform or how much explosive material was found in the man’s bag. They also did not comment as to where the man was being held, saying he was at either the airport or at the FBI office in Midland.
Midland police Sgt. Brian Rackow told the Midland Reporter-Telegram and Odessa American that the man identified himself to investigating officials as being active in the military. He was reported to have stated that he and his family had been in the area visiting relatives and were on their way back to his base in North Carolina.
