According to Wikipedia, Operations Security (OPSEC) is a process that identifies critical information to determine if friendly actions can be observed by adversary intelligence systems, determines if information obtained by adversaries could be interpreted to be useful to them, and then executes selected measures that eliminate or reduce adversary exploitation of friendly critical information.
In the Military/Intelligence communities, OPSEC is a 5 part process:
- Identification of Critical Information
- Analysis of Threats
- Analysis of Vulnerabilities
- Assessment of Risk
- Application of Appropriate OPSEC Measures
Operations Security within the survivalist and preparedness communities often amounts to whom you do and do not discuss your prepping activities with, for the purpose of avoiding negative attention. It also often involves the prepper providing misinformation about their prepping activities to others who are considered potential threats in some way, again to avoid attention that could result in negative consequences.
