The Right Way to Tie a Shemagh

With the COVID-19 virus here to stay for who know how long, it’s going to be important to conceal your coughs, sneezes and in the worst case scenario, your identity.

Here’s the proper way to tie a shemagh – an inexpensive, and readily available prepper accessory that almost all of us already own.

STEP 1: Fold the shemagh into a triangle.

STEP 2: Wrap it around the back and over the top of your head, with the folded edge across your forehead, making sure that about two-thirds of the material is on your left. The right end should be long enough to come to your chest.

STEP3: Use your left hand to pinch the shemagh about 3 or 4 inches from the folded edge and let the edge hang forward. Release the right end.

STEP 4: Use the left hand to hold the edge of the shemagh next to the left cheek and position it near your left cheekbone.

STEP 5: Use the right hand to pull the left end of the shemagh across the face, over the nose.

STEP 6: Continue to wrap the shemagh around the head until the end hangs above the left shoulder. Hold on to the right tail to keep from pulling the shmagh off the head as its being wrapped. Work the hands toward the ends as it is being wrapped.

STEP 7: Pull the shemagh as tight as needed to feel comfortable. At the end of the wrapping process, take both ends and tie them in a simple square knot.
